Eu li a versão em inglês, The Fault in Our Stars, e me apaixonei…

Frases e Trechos Marcantes, Engraçados, Românticos (…) de The Fault in Our Stars…

“But, in fact, depression is not a side effect of cancer. Depression is a side effect of dying. (Cancer is also a side effect of dying. Almost everything is, really.)”

“There will come a time when all of us are dead. All of us. There will come a time when there are no human beings remaining to remember that anyone ever existed or that our species ever did anything. There will be no left to remember Aristotle or Cleopatra, let alone you. Everything that we did and built and wrote and thought and discovered will be forgotten and all of this will have been for naught. Maybe that time is coming soon and maybe it is millions of years away, but even if we survive the collapse of our sun, we will not survive forever. There was time before organisms experienced consciousness, and there will be time after. And if the inevitability of human oblivion worries you, I encourage you to ignore it. God knows that’s what everyone else does.”

“It’s hard as hell to hold on to your dignity when the risen sun is too bright in your eyes, and that’s what I was thinking about as we hunted for bad guys through the ruins of a city that didn’t exist.” (Hazel)

“It’a a metaphor, see: You put the killing thing right between your teeth, but you don’t give it the power to do its  killing.”

“Look, let me just say it: He was hot. A nonhot boy stares at you relentlessly and it is, at best, awkward and, at worst, a form of assault. But a hot boy … well.”

“I liked Augustus Waters. I really, really, really liked him. I liked the way his story ended with someone else. Iliked his voice. I liked that hi took existentially fraught free throws. I liked that he was a tenured professor in the Departament of Slightly Crooked Smiles with a dual appointment in the Department of Having a Voice That Made My Skin Fell More Like Skin.”

Frase-The-Fault

” ‘Always’ was a promise! How can you just break the promise ? (Isaac)

Sometimes people don’t understand the promises the’re making when they make them. (Hazel)

Right, of course. But you keep the promise anyway. That’s what love is. Love is keeping the promise anyway. (Isaac)”

“I almost felt like he was there in my room with me, but in a way it was better, like I was not in my room and he was not in his room, but instead we were together in some invisible and tenuous third space that could only be visited on the phone.”

“I’m like. Like. I’m like a grenade, Mom. I’m a grenade and at some point I’m going to blow up and I would like to mnimize the casualties.” “I’m a grenade, I just want to stay away from people and read books and think and be with you guys because there’s nothing I can do about hurting you; you are too invested (…) I’m not depressed. I don’t need to get out more. And I can’t be a regular teenager, because I’m a grenade.”

“I was the alpha and the omega of my parents’ suffering.” (Hazel) (…)

“You are not a grenade, not to us. Thinking about you dying makes us sad, Hazel, but you are not a grenade. You are amazing. You can’t know, sweetie, because you’ve never had a baby become a brilliant young reader with a side interest in horrible television shows, but the joy you bring us is so much greater than the sadness we feel about your illness.”

The-Fault-In-Our-Stars2

“We made the story funny. You have a choice in this world, I believe, about how to tell sad stories, and we made the funny choice.”

“What am I at war with?  And what is my cancer? My cancer is me. The tumors are made of me. They’re made of me as surely as my brain and my heart are made of me. It is a civil war, Hazel Grace, with a predetermined winner.” (Gus)

“People talk about the courage of cancer patients, and I do not deny that courage. I had been poked and stabbed and poisoned for years, and still I trod on. But make no mistake: In that moment, I would have been very, very happy to die.” (Hazel)

“I believe th universe wants to be noticed. I think the universe is improbably biased toward consciouness, that it rewards intelligence in part because the universe enjoys its elegance being observed. And who am I, living in the middle of history, to tell the universe that it – or my observation of it – is temporaly?” (Augustus)

“There are infinite numbers between 0 and 1. There’s .1 and .12 and .112 and an infinite collection of others. Of course, there is a bigger infinite set of numbers between 0 and 2, or between 0 and a million. Some infinities are bigger than other infinities. A writer we used to like taught us that.

There are days, many of them, when I resent the size of my unbounded set. I want more numbers than I’m likely to get, and God, I want more numbers for Augustus Waters than he got. But, Gus, my love, I cannot tell you how thankful I am for our little infinity. I wouldn’t trade it for the world. You gave me a forever within the numbered days, and I’m grateful.”  (Hazel)

“Augustus Waters was a self-aggrandizing bastard. But we forgive him. We forgive him not because he had a heart as figuratively good as his literal one sucked, or because he knew more about how to hold a cigarette than any nonsmoker in history, or because he got eighteen years when he should’ve gotten more.’ ‘Seventeen,’ Gus corrected.

‘I’m assuming you’ve got some time, you interupting bastard. ‘I’m telling you,’ Isaac continued, ‘Augustus Waters talked so much that he’d interupt you at his own funeral. And he was pretentious: Sweet Jesus Christ, that kid never took a piss without pondering the abundant metaphorical resonances of human waste production. And he was vain: I do not believe I have ever met a more physically attractive person who was more acutely aware of his own physical attractiveness.

‘But I will say this: When the scientists of the future show up at my house with robot eyes and they tell me to try them on, I will tell the scientists to screw off, because I do not want to see a world without him.’ I was kind of crying by then.” (Isaac)
